This integration could consider protected areas and territories beyond their physical boundaries. The professional field of the sciences of ‘nature’, which so far has played a major role in these areas, along with the disciplines of social sciences and humanities, faces the challenge of integrating their analysis methods, which can be directly applied to an understanding of the dynamics of present-day tourism. But, on the other, the socioeconomic perspective is of great importance and should be incorporated further into this management. On one hand, the planning and management of natural areas have fundamentally been based on biophysical aspects hence, their name. Although these components have not lost their power to attract, many tourist destinations now highlight the relationship between nature and traditional culture. There are over one hundred thousand of these areas throughout the world and to date, their landscapes and biodiversity have constituted the main factor attracting visitors. Protected natural areas have traditionally played an important role in tourist destinations. Countries with high tourism development claimed competent answers to new challenges and needed professional help in. Concerning the evaluation of different regions for tourism, various attempts have been made in different fields and with different procedures, contributing many new insights in this field. The evaluation of tourism resources displays comparative benefits of different tourism products in a certain destination in our case the Slovenska Istra region. It enables an optimal exploit of tourism resources at disposal with minimum negative impacts on the natural, social and economic environment, which is the primary objective of sustainable tourism development. 1 Introduction: A suitable evaluation of tourism resources plays a vital role in the planning of sustainable tourism. The analysis of local factors in view of perspective tourism products showed that prudent handling of coastline tourism resources is particularly important, while inland parts of the coastline present an unexploited touristic potential. A Mediterranean landscape, Slovenska Istra, is the most developed tourist destination in Slovenia, which is why it needs a special approach in sustainable handling of the vast tourism resources it offers.
